Structural Steel Connector

Company Overview

High Plains Steel Services is a structural steel erection company based in Windsor, CO, focused on delivering safe, high-quality commercial and industrial steel projects. We know what it takes to build steel that stands: skilled hands, clear communication, and a safety-first mindset.

Our field crews are the core of our business. We back experienced ironworkers with solid leadership, strong planning, and a culture that respects both production and craftsmanship.

The Opportunity

We are hiring highly experienced Ironworker Connectors, especially proven lead connectors, to set the pace and standard on our structural steel projects. If you can connect steel at a high level, keep your head under pressure, and lead by example in safety and production, this is a place where your skills will be recognized and valued.

You will take a central role in the erection process: landing steel, making clean connections at height, and coordinating closely with crane operators and your crew to keep work moving safely and efficiently.

What You'll Do

  • Connect and bolt structural steel safely, accurately, and efficiently at height on commercial and industrial projects.
  • Drive safe production in the air, helping the crew reach 80–100 pieces per day when site conditions and planning support that pace.
  • Signal and communicate clearly with crane operators and crew members by hand signal and radio in English to execute safe, coordinated picks.
  • Land beams, columns, joists, decking, and miscellaneous steel with control and precision, then perform bolt-up, alignment, plumbing, and final connections to a high standard.
  • Read and interpret structural drawings and erection plans, apply proper rigging practices, and help teach and develop trailing connectors while leading by example.

What Success Looks Like

  • Within your first 3–6 months, you are trusted to lead key picks and connections on complex structures while maintaining a spotless safety record.
  • The crew consistently meets or exceeds production goals without compromising safety, quality, or site rules, in part due to your communication and pacing in the air.
  • Foremen and project leadership rely on you to read iron, adapt to changing field conditions, and keep work flowing smoothly.
  • Less-experienced connectors improve under your guidance, and your presence helps build a strong, dependable crew culture on every job.

What We're Looking For

  • Extensive hands-on structural steel connecting experience (5+ years preferred), with proven ability to work safely and confidently at height.
  • Strong skills in bolt-up, rigging, signaling, connecting, and erection procedures, including reading blueprints and erection drawings.
  • Calm, clear communicator with crane operators and crew, able to work productively under pressure while keeping safety first.
  • Reliable, physically capable ironworker who takes pride in clean connections, looks out for the crew, and is willing to put in overtime when needed.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Pay: $40–$45 per hour depending on experience and certifications
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off
  • Overtime opportunities
  • Training and certification support
  • Strong crew environment with experienced ironworkers
